Ingredients for Beef And Bean Chili

  • Lean Ground Beef
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • Celery Rib
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Garlic Cloves
  • 1 (15 ounce) can salsa
  • Diced Tomatoes
  • Kidney Beans
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • Ground Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

How to Make Beef And Bean Chili

  1. Spray a large heavy-bottomed saucepan with cooking spray. Add 1 lb lean ground beef and 1 teaspoon chili powder. Cook over medium-high heat, breaking up the beef with a spoon, until no longer pink.
  2. Remove the cooked beef from the pan using a slotted spoon and set aside.
  3. Add 1 green bell pepper (chopped), 2 celery stalks (chopped), 1 medium onion (chopped), and 2 cloves garlic (minced) to the saucepan. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Return the cooked beef to the saucepan.
  5. Stir in 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes with their juice, 1 (15 ounce) can of your favorite salsa, and 1 (15 ounce) can of kidney beans (rinsed and drained).
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
  7. While simmering, stir in 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon ground cumin, and 1 teaspoon dried basil.
  8. Simmer for 20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Add cayenne pepper, black pepper, or hot sauce to taste.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
