Ingredients for Beer Cheese Fondue
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 cup beer (a strong lager or pale ale works well)
- Swiss Cheese
- Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- Hot Pepper Sauce
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- Crusty Bread
How to Make Beer Cheese Fondue
- Rub the inside of your fondue pot with a clove of garlic.
- Discard the garlic clove.
- Place your fondue pot on the stovetop over medium heat.
- Add 1 cup of beer to the fondue pot and heat until it simmers.
- Reduce heat to low.
- In a separate bowl, thoroughly coat 2 cups of grated Gruyère cheese and 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese with 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour.
- Gradually add the cheese mixture to the simmering beer, stirring constantly until the cheese is melted and smooth. If the mixture becomes too thick, add a tablespoon of beer at a time until desired consistency is reached.
- Transfer the fondue pot to a fondue burner or warming element.
- Place the fondue pot on a heat-resistant surface.
- Dip crusty bread cubes, pretzel pieces, or vegetables using fondue forks into the cheese mixture.
- If the mixture thickens too much, thin it with a tablespoon of beer at a time, stirring continuously until smooth.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
