How to Make Ham And Swiss In Puff Pastry

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. If using frozen puff pastry, thaw completely according to package instructions. Do not rush this step!
  3. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened but not browned, about 5 minutes.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the beaten egg, shredded Swiss cheese, diced ham, parsley, dill weed, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  5. Stir in the cooked onion mixture.
  6. Set aside.
  7. Unfold the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut into 6-8 squares.
  8. Place 2-3 tablespoons of the filling onto the center of each puff pastry square.
  9. Brush the edges of the pastry with water.
  10. Fold the pastry in half diagonally to form a triangle, pressing firmly to seal the edges. Crimp the edges with a fork for a decorative finish.
  11. Place the pastries on an ungreased baking sheet.
  12. Brush the tops of the pastries with the egg wash.
  13. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the filling is heated through. Reduce oven temperature to 380°F (195°C) immediately after placing the pastries in the oven.
  14. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
