How to Make Spanish Sangria

  1. In a large pitcher, combine 1 bottle (750ml) of dry red wine, 1 cup (200ml) orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or Triple Sec), 1 cup (200ml) brandy, and 1/2 cup (100ml) orange juice.
  2. Add 1/2 cup (100g) sugar and stir until dissolved. If using a granulated sugar substitute, adjust the amount according to package directions.
  3. Chop 2 oranges, 2 lemons, and 1 orange into thick slices or wedges. Add these along with 1 cup (140g) chopped strawberries and 1 cup (140g) chopped peaches to the pitcher.
  4. Gently stir to combine all ingredients.
  5. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Just before serving, add 2 cups (475ml) chilled club soda or sparkling water.
  7. Add plenty of ice cubes and stir gently.
  8. Serve immediately in glasses filled with ice, garnished with a fruit slice (orange, lemon, or strawberry).
