- Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in an oven-safe skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Add 1 pound of round steak, cut into 2 serving-size pieces. Brown both sides for about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Transfer the browned steak to an ungreased 2-quart casserole dish.
- Add 1 pound potatoes, peeled and cubed; 1 cup carrots, peeled and sliced; and 1/2 cup onion, chopped to the casserole dish.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 10.75 ounces (1 can) condensed cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 cup water, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, and 1 tablespoon gravy master.
- Pour the soup mixture evenly over the steak and vegetables in the casserole dish.
- Cover the casserole dish tightly with a lid or aluminum foil.
- Bake for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until the beef is fork-tender.
- Optional: During the last 10 minutes of baking, sprinkle one 15-ounce can of drained green beans over the top, cover, and continue baking until heated through.
