Ingredients for 7 Layer Dip

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning
  • Refried Beans
  • 1 (16-ounce) jar salsa
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 2 ripe avocados, sliced
  • Green Onion
  • Tortilla chips (for serving)

How to Make 7 Layer Dip

  1. In a medium bowl, mix 1 cup sour cream with 1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning. Stir well and set aside.
  2. Chill the sour cream mixture in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  3. In a saucepan, combine 1 (15-ounce) can of refried beans and 1 (16-ounce) jar of your favorite salsa. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through and well combined (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Spread the cooled bean and salsa mixture evenly in an 11x13 inch baking dish.
  5. Spread the chilled sour cream and taco seasoning mixture over the bean and salsa layer.
  6. Layer the remaining ingredients in the following order: 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup sliced black olives, 2 cups shredded lettuce, 1 cup chopped tomatoes, 2 ripe avocados, sliced, and 1/4 cup chopped green onions.
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite tortilla chips. Enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
