How to Make 7 Layer Dip
- In a medium bowl, mix 1 cup sour cream with 1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning. Stir well and set aside.
- Chill the sour cream mixture in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
- In a saucepan, combine 1 (15-ounce) can of refried beans and 1 (16-ounce) jar of your favorite salsa. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through and well combined (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Spread the cooled bean and salsa mixture evenly in an 11x13 inch baking dish.
- Spread the chilled sour cream and taco seasoning mixture over the bean and salsa layer.
- Layer the remaining ingredients in the following order: 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup sliced black olives, 2 cups shredded lettuce, 1 cup chopped tomatoes, 2 ripe avocados, sliced, and 1/4 cup chopped green onions.
- Serve immediately with your favorite tortilla chips. Enjoy!
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
