Ingredients for Apple Cinnamon Friendship Bread

  • Amish Starter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Instant Butterscotch Pudding Mix
  • Cinnamon
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples

How to Make Apple Cinnamon Friendship Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the starter batter (see recipe notes for starter instructions), 2 large eggs, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 cup milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 cup granulated sugar, 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 (3.4 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix, 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, and 2 cups peeled and chopped apples.
  3. Grease and flour two 9x5 inch loaf pans, or spray with baking spray.
  4. In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon.
  5. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the bottom and sides of each prepared loaf pan.
  6. Pour batter evenly into the prepared loaf pans. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture over the top of the batter.
  7. Bake for approximately 60-75 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pans for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, slice and serve. Enjoy warm or cold!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
