Ingredients for Apple Pecan Cobbler

  • 6 medium apples (about 6 cups sliced)
  • ½ cup (100g) brown sugar + 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 cup (100g) chopped pecans
  • All Purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup (240ml) evaporated milk
  • ¼ cup (60g) melted unsalted butter

How to Make Apple Pecan Cobbler

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. Generously grease a 2-quart baking dish.
  3. Peel, core, and slice 6 medium apples (about 6 cups sliced). Arrange in an even layer in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a small bowl, combine ½ cup (100g) brown sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and ½ cup (50g) chopped pecans.
  5. Sprinkle the brown sugar-pecan mixture evenly over the apple slices.
  6. In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 ½ cups (180g) all-purpose flour, 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and ½ teaspoon salt.
  7. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 large egg, 1 cup (240ml) evaporated milk, and ¼ cup (60g) melted unsalted butter.
  8. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients all at once and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  9. Pour the batter evenly over the apples.
  10. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup (25g) chopped pecans over the top of the batter.
  11. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with only a few moist crumbs attached.
  12. Let cool slightly before serving warm with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
