Ingredients for Arroz Brasileiro Brazilian Rice

  • Olive Oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • Hot Chicken Broth
  • Italian Plum Tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (to taste)
  • Diced tomatoes for garnish (optional)

How to Make Arroz Brasileiro Brazilian Rice

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add 1/2 cup of chopped onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add 1 cup of long-grain rice and cook, stirring constantly, for 2-3 minutes, until the grains are coated with oil and lightly toasted.
  4. Pour in 2 cups of hot chicken or vegetable broth, 1 (14.5 ounce) can of diced tomatoes (undrained), and 1 teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly, and simmer for 20 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender.
  6. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes.
  7. Fluff with a fork and garnish generously with fresh chopped cilantro and diced tomatoes before serving.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
