Ingredients for Avocado And Bacon Dip
- 6 slices bacon
- Hass Avocadoes
- 1/2 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- Garlic Cloves
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
- Fresh Lemon Juice
- Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
- Tomatoes
- 1/2 cup sour cream
How to Make Avocado And Bacon Dip
- Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside; crumble when cool.
- Reserve 2 tablespoons of bacon grease in the skillet.
- Halve avocados and remove pits.
- Scoop avocado flesh into the skillet, cut-side down. Add the chopped onion.
- Cook avocados for 5-6 minutes per side, until lightly browned and onion is tender, occasionally spooning bacon grease over the avocados.
- Remove avocados and onion from skillet and place in a medium bowl.
- Add lemon juice, crumbled bacon, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to the bowl.
- Mash the mixture with a fork until it reaches your desired consistency. You can leave some chunks for texture.
- Stir in chopped tomato and sour cream.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld. (Even better the next day!)
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
