  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

How to Make Babzy S Lazy Cabbage Casserole

  1. Brown 1 lb ground beef, 1 medium onion (chopped), and 2 cloves garlic (minced) in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in 1 cup uncooked long-grain rice and 1 packet (1 ounce) onion soup mix into the meat mixture. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Spread 1 (14 ounce) bag coleslaw mix evenly in a lightly greased 9x13 inch glass baking dish.
  5. Spread the meat mixture evenly over the coleslaw.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce, 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup, and 1/2 cup water. Pour evenly over the cabbage and meat.
  7. Top with 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional).
  8. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Remove foil for the last 15 minutes of cooking for browning.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
