Ingredients for Barbecue Beef Strips

  • Round Steaks
  • Vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • Canola Oil
  • Garlic Salt
  • Chili Powder
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • Dry Mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Pepper
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

How to Make Barbecue Beef Strips

  1. Cut 1.5 lbs of steak (sirloin, flank, or skirt steak work well) into 1/2-inch thick strips.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the marinade ingredients: 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon paprika, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
  3. Add the beef strips to the marinade, stir to coat, cover, and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or preferably overnight.
  4. Remove beef strips from marinade, reserving the marinade. Drain the beef strips slightly.
  5. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef strips and brown for 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup ketchup, 1/4 cup tomato sauce, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch.
  7. Pour the reserved marinade and ketchup mixture over the beef strips in the skillet. Stir to combine.
  8. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and the beef is cooked through.
  9. Serve immediately on toasted hamburger buns with your favorite toppings or over cooked rice.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
