Ingredients for Beer And Brats
- Bratwursts
- 12 oz dark beer (your favorite!)
- Onion
- Ginger
- Water
- Coriander
- Cumin
- Spicy Brown Mustard
How to Make Beer And Brats
- Thinly slice the onion and caramelize it in a large pot or Dutch oven with olive oil over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until golden brown and sweet.
- Add brown sugar, Dijon mustard, caraway seeds (if using), salt and pepper to the onions, and stir well to combine.
- Pour in the dark beer and beef broth, ensuring the onions are partially submerged in the liquid.
- Prick each bratwurst sausage several times with a fork. Gently add them to the pot.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-40 minutes, or until the brats are floating and cooked through. (Adding a few minutes will enhance the beer flavor further).
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Remove the brats from the pot and place them on the preheated grill. Grill for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are nicely browned and heated through.
- Serve the Beer Brats immediately with the caramelized onions and your favorite sides, such as our Red Cabbage Sauerkraut (recipe available separately).
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
