Ingredients for Beer Baked Beans

  • Vidalia Onion
  • Green Pepper
  • Brown Sugar Baked Beans
  • Hamburger
  • Barbecue Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • Ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • Maple Syrup
  • 1 cup beer (stout or porter recommended)

How to Make Beer Baked Beans

  1. Sauté one medium onion, chopped, and one bell pepper (any color), chopped, in 2 tablespoons of butter until softened (about 5 minutes).
  2. In your crockpot, combine the sautéed onion and pepper with 1 (15-ounce) can of kidney beans (drained and rinsed), 1 (15-ounce) can of pinto beans (drained and rinsed), 1 (15-ounce) can of baked beans, 1 cup of your favorite beer (stout or porter recommended), 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of molasses, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon of mustard, 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder.
  3. Stir to combine all ingredients thoroughly.
  4. Cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, or until the beans are tender and the sauce has thickened.
  5. Before serving, taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Consider adding a dash of hot sauce for extra kick!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
