How to Make Italian Meatloaf
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a medium sauté pan over medium heat. Add 1 medium onion, chopped, and 1 green bell pepper, chopped. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, until softened.
- Add 2 cloves garlic, minced, and sauté for another minute until fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
- In a large bowl, combine 1 lb Italian sausage (removed from casings), 1 lb ground beef, 1 cup breadcrumbs, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1 large egg, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon dried basil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
- Add the cooled pepper and onion mixture to the meat mixture and gently combine.
- Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan with olive oil. Pack the meat mixture into the prepared loaf pan.
- Spread 1 cup of your favorite marinara sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the center registers 160°F (71°C).
- Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
