How to Make Shrimp Bread
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Using a serrated bread knife, carefully slice a large loaf of bread lengthwise. Scoop out the soft inside, leaving a 1/2-inch border intact to form the bread shell.
- Finely chop 1/2 cup onion, 1/2 cup celery, 1/2 cup bell pepper (any color), and 2 cloves garlic.
- Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat. Add the chopped vegetables and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another 3 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low. Stir in 1 teaspoon dried basil, salt and pepper to taste, 1 pound cooked shrimp (or crabmeat/crawfish), and 1/4 cup chopped green onions.
- Gently heat the shrimp mixture until warmed through; do not overcook.
- Add the scooped-out bread to the pot and stir gently until well combined with the seafood mixture.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
- Place the bread shells on a large sheet of aluminum foil.
- Spoon the seafood mixture evenly into both halves of the bread shells.
- Gently press the bread halves together and wrap tightly in the aluminum foil.
- Place the wrapped loaf in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until heated through and the bread is slightly golden.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
