How to Make Shrimp Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Using a serrated bread knife, carefully slice a large loaf of bread lengthwise. Scoop out the soft inside, leaving a 1/2-inch border intact to form the bread shell.
  3. Finely chop 1/2 cup onion, 1/2 cup celery, 1/2 cup bell pepper (any color), and 2 cloves garlic.
  4. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat. Add the chopped vegetables and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 3 minutes.
  6. Reduce heat to low. Stir in 1 teaspoon dried basil, salt and pepper to taste, 1 pound cooked shrimp (or crabmeat/crawfish), and 1/4 cup chopped green onions.
  7. Gently heat the shrimp mixture until warmed through; do not overcook.
  8. Add the scooped-out bread to the pot and stir gently until well combined with the seafood mixture.
  9. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  10. Place the bread shells on a large sheet of aluminum foil.
  11. Spoon the seafood mixture evenly into both halves of the bread shells.
  12. Gently press the bread halves together and wrap tightly in the aluminum foil.
  13. Place the wrapped loaf in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until heated through and the bread is slightly golden.
  14. Serve immediately and enjoy!
