How to Make String Pie
- Brown 1 lb ground beef (and 1/2 lb Italian sausage, optional) with 1 medium onion (chopped), 1 green bell pepper (chopped), and 2 cloves garlic (minced) in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Drain off any excess grease.
- Stir in 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes and 24 oz (2 jars) of your favorite spaghetti sauce. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together 1 lb cooked spaghetti, 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 2 large eggs, and 4 tablespoons butter.
- Spread the spaghetti mixture into a greased 9x13 inch casserole dish.
- Spread 15 oz (1 container) of cottage cheese evenly over the spaghetti.
- Pour the meat sauce over the cottage cheese.
- Sprinkle generously with 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for 30-35 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown.
