  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Tart Apples
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

How to Make Apple Clafouti

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, eggs, milk, and cold water until completely smooth. Adjust water if the batter is too thick.
  3. Gently fold in the sliced apples and sugar.
  4. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the batter for at least 30 minutes, or preferably overnight for enhanced flavor.
  5. Place the melted butter (or oil) in a 9-inch deep pie plate.
  6. Place the pie plate in the preheated oven for 5 minutes to heat the fat.
  7. Carefully remove the hot pie plate from the oven.
  8. Quickly pour the batter into the hot pie plate.
  9. Immediately return the pie plate to the oven.
  10. Reduce oven temperature to 375°F (190°C).
  11. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the clafouti is golden brown and set. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
