How to Make Asian Meatballs With Sesame Lime Dipping Sauce
- Preheat oven to 500°F (260°C). Position oven rack in the middle.
- In a large bowl, combine 1 cup bread crumbs with 1/2 cup milk. Stir until the liquid is absorbed.
- Add 1 pound ground pork and 1/2 pound ground veal (or 1.5 pounds ground beef), 1 large egg, 1/2 cup chopped water chestnuts, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and 2 teaspoons sesame oil. Gently mix with your hands until just combined.
- Roll 3 tablespoons of the meat mixture into a ball. Repeat until all meat is used. Arrange meatballs about 1/2 inch apart in a 13x9 inch glass baking dish.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through.
- While the meatballs bake, whisk together 1/4 cup lime juice, 2 tablespoons water, 2 tablespoons sugar, 4 tablespoons soy sauce, and 2 teaspoons sesame oil in a small bowl until the sugar dissolves.
- Transfer the cooked meatballs to a serving dish.
- Stir the dipping sauce and drizzle 1 tablespoon over the meatballs. Garnish with fresh cilantro sprigs.
- Serve immediately over steamed white rice with the remaining dipping sauce on the side.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
