How to Make Asian Style Cabbage Rolls
- Fill a steamer with about 1 inch of water and bring to a boil.
- Separate 8 large cabbage leaves from a head of cabbage.
- Steam the leaves for 5 minutes, or until pliable. Immediately plunge into ice water to stop cooking and retain color.
- Gently trim the thick core from each cabbage leaf.
- In a large bowl, combine all remaining ingredients (see below) and mix thoroughly.
- Lay each cabbage leaf flat on a clean work surface.
- Divide the filling evenly (about 1/8th per leaf) and place a portion onto the center of each leaf.
- Fold one end of the cabbage leaf over the filling.
- Fold in the sides, then tightly roll into a log shape.
- Arrange the cabbage rolls on a plate and chill for at least 30 minutes (or up to 24 hours).
- Place the chilled cabbage rolls in a steamer basket set over (not in) boiling water.
- Steam for 15-20 minutes, or until the turkey is cooked through and the cabbage is tender.
- Serve immediately with a soy dipping sauce (recipe not included).
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Elevate your dish with simple flavor boosters! A final flourish of freshly chopped herbs can add incredible brightness, while a squeeze of lemon or lime juice right before serving can awaken all the flavors. Don't underestimate a sprinkle of quality finishing salt or a drizzle of good olive oil to make your creation shine.
