How to Make Au Gratin Artichokes
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 finely chopped onion and 2 cloves minced garlic. Saute until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add 1 (14 ounce) can of artichoke hearts, drained and thinly sliced, to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes, until heated through.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup milk, 1 large egg, 1/4 cup dry white wine, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
- Stir in 1/2 cup grated Gruyere cheese (or similar) into the milk mixture.
- Transfer the artichoke mixture to a greased 8x8 inch baking dish.
- Pour the milk mixture evenly over the artichokes.
- Sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup Gruyere cheese, 1/4 cup breadcrumbs, and a pinch of paprika.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
