  • Garlic Clove
  • Red Wine Vinegar
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Brown Sugar

How to Make Barbecue Beef Brisket

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. Generously season a 5-pound beef brisket (or boneless beef roast/bottom round) with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  3. Place the seasoned roast in a covered roaster and cook for 3-4 hours, or until the meat is fork-tender.
  4. Remove the roast from the oven and let it cool slightly before refrigerating for at least 30 minutes to make slicing easier.
  5. While the roast cools, prepare the BBQ sauce (see ingredient list for recipe).
  6. Once cool, trim away any excess fat from the brisket.
  7. Slice the brisket thinly against the grain.
  8. Place sliced beef in a 9x12 inch casserole dish in two layers, topping each layer generously with the prepared BBQ sauce.
  9. Thinly slice one lemon and arrange the slices over the top layer of meat.
  10. Cover the casserole dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour, or until heated through.
  11. Remove the lemon slices before serving. Serve immediately on hamburger buns.
  12. For freezing: Allow to cool completely before wrapping tightly and freezing for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
