- In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown 1 lb ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain off any excess grease.
- Add 1 medium onion, chopped, and 2 cloves garlic, minced, to the pot. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in 28 oz can crushed tomatoes, 15 oz can tomato sauce, 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon dried basil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, and 1 tablespoon sugar.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
- Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add 1 lb spaghetti (uncooked), cover, and simmer for another 20-25 minutes, or until the pasta is cooked through and the sauce has thickened. Stir frequently to prevent sticking.
- Serve immediately, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
