How to Make Beef Taco Noodle Bake
- Brown 1 lb ground beef and 1 medium onion (chopped) in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
- Stir in 1 (28 ounce) can of tomato sauce, 1 cup of water, and 1 packet of taco seasoning. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine 16 ounces of cottage cheese, 1/2 cup sour cream, 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, and 1 beef bouillon cube (crumbled).
- Add 8 ounces cooked egg noodles (or other pasta), 1/4 cup chopped green onions, and 1 (4 ounce) can of diced green chilies (drained) to the cottage cheese mixture. Stir until well combined.
- Grease a 13x9 inch baking dish. Spread half of the noodle mixture evenly in the dish.
- Top with the beef mixture, spreading evenly.
- Spread the remaining noodle mixture over the beef.
- Top evenly with 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite Mexican blend).
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until heated through and bubbly.
- Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving.
- Serve with a tossed salad and cornbread for a complete meal. Serves 6.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
