How to Make Beefy Tomato Rice
- Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 lb ground beef, 1 medium onion (chopped), 1 green bell pepper (chopped), and 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes. Cook, breaking up the beef with a spoon, until browned (about 8-10 minutes).
- Drain off any excess grease. Add 2 cloves garlic (minced), 1 teaspoon dried thyme, 1 teaspoon dried basil, and 1 teaspoon chili powder. Cook for 1 minute more, stirring constantly.
- Stir in 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes, 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce, 1 cup long-grain rice, 1 1/2 cups beef broth, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.
