Ingredients for 5 Minute General Tsos Chicken

  • Chicken Tenders
  • 1 large head broccoli, cut into florets
  • Kosher Salt
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Red Chili Pepper Flakes
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Garlic Cloves
  • 1 inch ginger, minced
  • Cooked white rice, for serving
  • Scallion
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)

How to Make 5 Minute General Tsos Chicken

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Arrange frozen chicken tenders in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy (check package instructions for recommended time and add 10 minutes).
  4. Reduce oven temperature to 200°F (95°C) and keep chicken warm.
  5. While chicken bakes, fill a medium pot with 1 inch of water and place a steamer basket inside.
  6. Bring water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add broccoli florets and season with salt.
  7. Cover and steam for 8-10 minutes, or until broccoli is tender-crisp.
  8. Keep broccoli warm.
  9. In a medium bowl, whisk together cornstarch, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, honey, red pepper flakes, and 3 tablespoons of water until smooth.
  10. Set aside.
  11. Heat sesame oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and ginger and sauté for 2 minutes, or until fragrant and softened.
  12. Pour in the cornstarch mixture and whisk constantly until it comes to a boil and thickens (about 1-2 minutes).
  13. Remove from heat and keep warm.
  14. Remove chicken from the oven and transfer to a large bowl.
  15. Add the steamed broccoli and sauce to the bowl. Toss gently to coat the chicken and broccoli evenly.
  16. Serve immediately over cooked white rice. Garnish with sliced scallions and toasted sesame seeds.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
