Ingredients for Almond Poppy Seed Bread

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup poppy seeds
  • 1 cup milk
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • Butter Flavoring

How to Make Almond Poppy Seed Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9x5 inch loaf pans, or line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, butter, eggs, milk, almond extract, poppy seeds, and almonds.
  3. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes, until well combined.
  4. If making loaves, spoon batter evenly into prepared loaf pans. If making muffins, fill muffin cups about 2/3 full.
  5. Bake loaves for 60-75 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Bake muffins for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let loaves cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Muffins can cool in the tin for 5 minutes before transferring.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
