Ingredients for Apple Barbecue Sauce

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • Seasoned Rice Vinegar
  • Apple Juice
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Prepared Yellow Mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Ground Black Pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (plus 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon more, to taste)
  • Imitation Bacon Bits
  • 1 medium apple, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
  • Green Bell Peppers

How to Make Apple Barbecue Sauce

  1. In a large saucepan, combine ketchup, rice vinegar, apple juice, cider vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, white pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Whisk to thoroughly combine all ingredients.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low. Add diced apple, onion, and bell pepper.
  5. Simmer uncovered for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
  6. Stir in bacon bits during the last 2 minutes of simmering.
  7. Remove from heat and allow the sauce to cool completely.
  8. Pour into sterilized glass jars. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
  9. For extra heat, add more cayenne pepper to taste (start with an additional 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon).

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
