How to Make Apple Barbecue Sauce
- In a large saucepan, combine ketchup, rice vinegar, apple juice, cider vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, white pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- Whisk to thoroughly combine all ingredients.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently.
- Reduce heat to medium-low. Add diced apple, onion, and bell pepper.
- Simmer uncovered for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
- Stir in bacon bits during the last 2 minutes of simmering.
- Remove from heat and allow the sauce to cool completely.
- Pour into sterilized glass jars. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
- For extra heat, add more cayenne pepper to taste (start with an additional 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon).
