Ingredients for Apple Strudels

  • Granny Smith Apples
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar + 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • Sultana Raisin
  • Puff Pastry
  • 1/4 cup ground almonds
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Soft Brown Sugar
  • Ground Cinnamon

How to Make Apple Strudels

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Lightly grease two large baking sheets.
  3. Peel, core, and thinly slice 4 medium apples (about 4 cups).
  4. In a medium saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced apples and cook for 2 minutes, until lightly golden.
  5. Add 1/4 cup orange juice, 2 tablespoons honey, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup raisins.
  6. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the apples are tender but still hold their shape (about 5-7 minutes).
  7. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  8. Unfold one sheet of puff pastry (14.1 oz box) on a lightly floured surface.
  9. Fold the pastry in half and make 3/4-inch cuts along the folded edge at 1-inch intervals, stopping about 1 inch from the end.
  10. Unfold the pastry and sprinkle evenly with 1/4 cup ground almonds.
  11. Spread half of the cooled apple mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a 2-inch border.
  12. Brush the edges of the pastry with 1 beaten egg.
  13. Carefully fold the pastry over the filling, pressing firmly to seal.
  14. Place the strudel seam-side down on a prepared baking sheet.
  15. Brush the top with remaining beaten egg and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
  16. Repeat steps 8-15 with the remaining pastry and apple filling.
  17. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crisp.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Elevate your dish with simple flavor boosters! A final flourish of freshly chopped herbs can add incredible brightness, while a squeeze of lemon or lime juice right before serving can awaken all the flavors. Don't underestimate a sprinkle of quality finishing salt or a drizzle of good olive oil to make your creation shine.
