How to Make Baked Lasagna
- Brown 1 lb ground beef (or Italian sausage) in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
- Stir in 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes, 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon dried basil, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
- Add 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste and 1 (6 ounce) can water.
- Simmer uncovered for 45 minutes, or until sauce has thickened, stirring occasionally.
- Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, combine 15 ounces cottage cheese, 2 large eggs, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley. Mix well and stir in 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese.
- Cover and refrigerate the cottage cheese mixture until ready to use.
- Also meanwhile, cook lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain and rinse with cold water.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Lightly spray a 13x9x2 inch baking pan with vegetable oil spray.
- Spread half of the cooked lasagna noodles in the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Spread half of the cottage cheese mixture evenly over the noodles.
- Top with half of the meat sauce and half of the mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat layers: noodles, cottage cheese mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for 30 minutes, or until the lasagna is bubbly and the cheese is golden brown and melted through.
- Let stand for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
