How to Make Bavarian Cheese Dip Obatzda
- Place 4 ounces of brie or camembert cheese in a medium bowl.
- Add 4 ounces of cream cheese, 2 tablespoons of butter, 2 tablespoons of ale (or beer), 1 clove minced garlic, and 1 teaspoon of caraway seeds.
- Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of paprika, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Beat well with a fork or whisk until smooth and creamy.
- Finely dice 1/2 small red onion. Rinse the diced onion under cold water in a strainer.
- Drain the onion and wrap in a clean kitchen towel, squeezing out excess moisture.
- Gently fold the squeezed onion into the cheese mixture.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or up to 4 days) to allow the flavors to meld.
- While the dip chills, prepare your accompaniments: Slice French or German bread into 1/4-inch thick slices.
- To serve, arrange the Obatzda in a serving bowl. Top with thinly sliced vidalia onion and radish.
- Surround the dip with an array of fresh-cut vegetables (e.g., bell peppers, carrots, celery) and olives.
- Serve with the sliced bread for dipping.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
