How to Make Beef Pizza Casserole With Pizza Crust

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Grease a 13 x 9-inch casserole dish.
  3. In a large skillet, brown 1 lb ground beef with 1/2 cup chopped onion, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1/2 green bell pepper (chopped), and 1/2 teaspoon dried chili flakes until beef is no longer pink. Drain any excess grease and return to skillet.
  4. Stir in 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese and 1/4 cup all-purpose flour until well blended.
  5. Add 2 cups pasta sauce and 1 cup sliced mushrooms.
  6. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly, for 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Pour the beef mixture into the prepared casserole dish. Sprinkle with 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese.
  8. Unroll one 12-14 inch pizza crust and place it over the cheese layer.
  9. Brush the pizza crust with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Sprinkle with 1-2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese.
  10. Sprinkle with 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  12. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
