How to Make Beef Tips And Rice
- In a large Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
- Remove the vegetables from the pan and set aside on a plate.
- In a bowl, toss the beef cubes with the remaining 3 tablespoons of olive oil, ensuring each cube is lightly coated.
- Add the seasoned beef to the Dutch oven. Brown the beef on all sides over medium-high heat. This will take about 8-10 minutes.
- Add the cooked vegetables back to the Dutch oven.
- Pour in 4 cups of beef broth (or water), soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, partially cover, and simmer for 1 hour, or until the beef is very tender.
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/3 cup of cold water and 3 tablespoons of flour until smooth.
- Gradually whisk the flour slurry into the simmering beef mixture. Continue to simmer for another 5-10 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened to your desired consistency.
- Serve the tender beef tips over hot cooked rice or mashed potatoes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
