Ingredients for Beef With Broccoli
- 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 large head broccoli, cut into florets and stalks sliced thinly
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- Sherry Wine
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- Salt
- 6 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 2 tablespoons water
How to Make Beef With Broccoli
- Prepare the broccoli: Cut the broccoli head into florets. Thinly slice the stalk.
- Marinate the beef: In a bowl, combine the sliced beef, cornstarch, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sherry. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 10 minutes.
- Stir-fry the broccoli: Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the broccoli and stir-fry for 1 minute until slightly tender-crisp.
- Add water and cook: Pour in 2 tablespoons of water and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove the broccoli from the pan and set aside.
- Stir-fry the beef: Heat the remaining 3 tablespoons of oil in the same pan over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2 minutes until browned and cooked through.
- Combine and serve: Add the cooked broccoli to the beef. Stir well to combine and cook for another 2 minutes. Serve immediately over steamed rice, garnished with sesame seeds (optional).
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
