Ingredients for Beef With Oranges

  • 2 large oranges, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • Boneless Sirloin Steaks
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Canola Oil
  • Green Onions

How to Make Beef With Oranges

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together orange juice, soy sauce, honey, and cornstarch until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Season the beef steaks generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Sear the steaks for 2-3 minutes per side, until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the skillet. Add the sliced oranges and cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.
  5. Add the minced garlic and ginger (if using) to the skillet and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  6. Pour the orange juice mixture into the skillet and bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.
  7. Return the steaks to the skillet. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover and simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the beef is cooked to your desired doneness.
  8. If desired, stir in cayenne pepper or sriracha for extra heat.
  9. Serve immediately, spooning the orange sauce over the steak. Garnish with fresh cilantro or green onions (optional).

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
