How to Make Coca Cola Pepper Steak
- Trim all fat from the 1 lb beef sirloin steak and cut into pencil-thin strips.
- In a deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add 2 minced cloves of garlic and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Add the beef strips and brown over high heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally with a fork.
- Add 1 cup of beef broth.
- Cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the meat is fork-tender.
- Stir in 1 green bell pepper (thinly sliced), 1/2 cup thinly sliced celery, 1/2 cup thinly sliced onion, and 4 fluid ounces of Coca-Cola.
- Cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Do not overcook; the vegetables should be crisp-tender.
- Peel and cut 2 medium tomatoes into wedges; gently stir into the meat.
- In a small bowl, blend 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 fluid ounces of Coca-Cola and 1 tablespoon soy sauce until smooth.
- Stir the cornstarch mixture into the meat and cook until the sauce thickens, about 1 minute, stirring lightly with a fork.
- Serve the Coca-Cola Pepper Steak over hot cooked rice.
