Ingredients for Asian Drumstix

  • 1.5 lbs chicken drumsticks
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Minced Garlic Cloves
  • Chicken Broth
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apricot preserves
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • Ground Ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • Green Onions

How to Make Asian Drumstix

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Rinse chicken drumsticks and pat thoroughly dry with paper towels.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together sesame oil, chopped onion, minced garlic, chicken broth, rice vinegar, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, apricot preserves, brown sugar, and grated ginger.
  4. Add chicken drumsticks to the bowl, ensuring they are evenly coated in the sauce.
  5. Arrange chicken drumsticks in a single layer in a baking dish.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the juices run clear. Flip the drumsticks halfway through.
  7. While chicken is baking, prepare your desired sides.
  8. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  9. Increase oven temperature to broil. Return chicken to oven and broil for 2-3 minutes, or until the glaze is caramelized and slightly thickened (watch carefully to prevent burning).
  10. Remove from oven and sprinkle with sesame seeds and/or sliced green onions.
  11. Serve immediately. Enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
