How to Make Bbq Beef On A Bun
- Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
- Place a 3-4 lb beef roast in a roasting pan. Add 1 tbsp olive oil, 4 cloves minced garlic, 1 cup water, 1 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp black pepper.
- Cover the roasting pan and cook for 3-4 hours, or until the beef is fork-tender and easily shreds.
- While the beef cooks, prepare the BBQ sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Add 1 large onion, chopped, and cook until softened (about 5 minutes).
- Add 1 cup ketchup and bring to a simmer.
- Stir in 1/2 cup packed brown sugar and 1/4 cup molasses. Taste and add 1-2 tsp more brown sugar if needed.
- Stir in 2 tbsp lemon juice and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Shred the cooked beef and add it to the BBQ sauce. Simmer for another 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Serve the BBQ beef on hamburger buns. Top with cheddar cheese slices and thinly sliced onions, if desired.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
