How to Make Beef Rolls
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the filling: Cook 4 slices of bacon until crispy. Crumble. Sauté 1 cup sliced mushrooms until tender. Combine bacon, mushrooms, and 1/2 cup crumbled bread slices in a bowl.
- Prepare the beef: Cut 1 lb sirloin, round steak, or sandwich steak into 8 thin slices (about 1/4 inch thick). If using pre-cut sirloin, adjust accordingly.
- Assemble the rolls: Place about 1/4 cup of filling onto each beef slice. Roll tightly and secure with kitchen string (approximately 5 inches long).
- Sear the rolls (optional): For extra flavor, sear the beef rolls in a tablespoon of oil for 1-2 minutes per side in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Bake: Place the rolls in a baking dish and bake in a preheated oven for 155 minutes, or until the beef is tender.
- Rest: Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
- Serve: Slice the beef rolls and serve immediately with mashed potatoes and a lemon wedge.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Elevate your dish with simple flavor boosters! A final flourish of freshly chopped herbs can add incredible brightness, while a squeeze of lemon or lime juice right before serving can awaken all the flavors. Don't underestimate a sprinkle of quality finishing salt or a drizzle of good olive oil to make your creation shine.
