How to Make 3 Cheese Spinach Roasted Red Pepper Calzones
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out pizza dough to a 12x12-inch square. Cut the dough into 4 equal squares.
- In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, chopped spinach, roasted red peppers, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Place about 1/2 cup of the filling slightly off-center on each dough square.
- Fold one side of the dough square over the filling to meet the other side, forming a triangle.
- Gently round off the corners of the triangle to create a semi-circle. Press the edges firmly with a fork to seal.
- Whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush the top of each calzone with the egg wash.
- Place calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 7 minutes before serving.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
