How to Make 3 Cheese Spinach Roasted Red Pepper Calzones

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out pizza dough to a 12x12-inch square. Cut the dough into 4 equal squares.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, chopped spinach, roasted red peppers, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Place about 1/2 cup of the filling slightly off-center on each dough square.
  5. Fold one side of the dough square over the filling to meet the other side, forming a triangle.
  6. Gently round off the corners of the triangle to create a semi-circle. Press the edges firmly with a fork to seal.
  7. Whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush the top of each calzone with the egg wash.
  8. Place calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from oven and let rest for 7 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve hot and enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
