Ingredients for Apple Herb Stuffing

  • 2 stalks celery, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Butter
  • Hot Water
  • Instant Chicken Bouillon
  • Dry Bread
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • Slivered Almonds
  • Parsley
  • Poultry Seasoning
  • Rubbed Sage

How to Make Apple Herb Stuffing

  1. Melt 1/4 cup margarine in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 2 stalks celery, thinly sliced, and 1 medium onion, chopped. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Pour in 1/2 cup water and dissolve 1 cube (8 ounces) chicken bouillon.
  3. Cook until the bouillon is fully dissolved, about 1 minute.
  4. In a large bowl, combine 6 cups cubed bread (day-old is best), 1 teaspoon dried sage, 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional), and 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced.
  5. Add the celery-onion-bouillon mixture to the bread mixture.
  6. Gently mix until all ingredients are evenly combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Loosely stuff the turkey cavity just before roasting. Place any remaining stuffing in a greased baking dish.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30-40 minutes, or until heated through and lightly browned.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
