Ingredients for Baked Beef Patties

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • Dried Oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Lean Ground Beef
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Seasoned Bread Crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 (24 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
  • Cheddar Cheese
  • Parmesan Cheese

How to Make Baked Beef Patties

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine onion powder, dried thyme, water, garlic salt, oregano, paprika, and pepper.
  3. Add 1 pound of ground beef and mix well until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Shape the beef mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  5. Coat each patty in 1/2 cup of flour, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  6. Dip each floured patty in the beaten egg, allowing excess to drip off.
  7. Then, coat each patty in breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  8. In a large skillet, brown the patties in 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat for about 2-3 minutes per side.
  9. Arrange the browned patties in a greased shallow baking dish.
  10. Pour half of the spaghetti sauce over the patties.
  11. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  12. Top with the remaining spaghetti sauce.
  13. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese and remaining thyme over the top.
  14. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the meat is no longer pink and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  15. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
