Ingredients for Killer Lasagna

  • Italian Sausage
  • Ground Beef
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Whole Tomato
  • Tomato Paste
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • Cottage Cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Parsley Flakes
  • Eggs
  • Ground Black Pepper
  • Lasagna Noodle
  • 15 oz container shredded mozzarella cheese

How to Make Killer Lasagna

  1. Brown 1 lb Italian sausage and 1 lb ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add 1 large onion (chopped), 2 cloves garlic (minced), 28 oz can crushed tomatoes, 15 oz can tomato sauce, 1 tsp dried oregano, 1 tsp dried basil, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, and 1-2 bay leaves to the skillet. Simmer uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. While the meat sauce simmers, prepare the cheese filling: In a medium bowl, combine 15 oz ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1 egg, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, and 1/4 tsp salt.
  4. Cook 1 lb lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain and rinse with cold water; set aside.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  6. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of the prepared pan. Layer with 1/3 of the noodles, breaking as needed to fit.
  7. Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by half of a 15oz container of shredded mozzarella cheese, then top with 1/3 of the remaining meat sauce.
  8. Repeat layers: noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese, meat sauce.
  9. Top with the remaining noodles and remaining mozzarella cheese.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until bubbly and heated through.
  11. Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting and serving. Enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Want to unlock deeper, more complex flavors? Try toasting your whole spices before grinding them, or blooming ground spices in a little warm oil to enhance their aroma. Deglazing your pan with a bit of stock, wine, or even water after browning ingredients can capture those tasty caramelized bits, adding richness to your dish.
