How to Make Twisted American Chop Suey
- Cook 1 pound of egg noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- Brown 1 pound of ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease and add the cooked noodles. Set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Sauté 1 medium onion, chopped, and 2 cloves of garlic, minced, until the onion is tender (about 5 minutes).
- Add the sautéed onion and garlic to the beef and noodle mixture.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 (10.75 ounce) can of condensed tomato soup and 1/2 cup of milk. Add this mixture to the beef and noodle mixture along with 1 (15 ounce) can of diced tomatoes, undrained, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon of paprika. Mix well.
- Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 3-quart casserole dish. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top. Cover the dish.
- Bake in a preheated 400°F (200°C) oven for 30 minutes, or until heated through and bubbly. For a crispier cheese topping, uncover the casserole during the last 5-10 minutes of baking.
Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor
Elevate your dish with simple flavor boosters! A final flourish of freshly chopped herbs can add incredible brightness, while a squeeze of lemon or lime juice right before serving can awaken all the flavors. Don't underestimate a sprinkle of quality finishing salt or a drizzle of good olive oil to make your creation shine.
