How to Make Apple Bbq Sauce Chicken Wings

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a food processor, combine 1 medium apple (cored and chopped), ½ medium onion (chopped), and ½ green bell pepper (chopped). Process until finely chopped.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the processed apple mixture with 1 cup apple cider vinegar, ½ cup brown sugar, ¼ cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (or more, to taste), and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
  5. While the sauce simmers, prepare the rub: In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1 tablespoon paprika, 1 tablespoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon black pepper, and ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (or more, to taste).
  6. Pat 2 lbs of chicken wings dry with paper towels. Rub the spice mixture all over the wings, ensuring even coating.
  7. Line a baking sheet with foil and spray with cooking spray. Arrange chicken wings in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven, pour the BBQ sauce over the wings, ensuring they are fully coated. Return to the oven.
  10. Bake for another 20 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through, until cooked through and nicely caramelized.
  11. Remove from oven, let rest for 5 minutes, and serve immediately. Enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Small additions can make a big impact! Try a sprinkle of fresh herbs, a dash of your favorite spice blend, or a squeeze of citrus just before serving to really enhance the flavors of your dish.
