How to Make Amazing Breakfast Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 3-quart baking dish with 1 tablespoon of butter.
  2. In a medium skillet, melt 2 teaspoons of butter over medium-high heat. Add chopped onions, bell peppers, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Cook, stirring, until softened, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Stir in parsley and remove from heat. Let cool.
  4. In the same skillet, melt the remaining 1 teaspoon of butter. Add diced Canadian bacon and cook, stirring, for 3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  5. Add crumbled sausage to the skillet and cook, stirring, until lightly browned, 5-6 minutes. Drain on paper towels and let cool.
  6. In a large bowl, beat eggs. Add milk, cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Whisk to combine.
  7. Add bread cubes and let sit for 5 minutes to absorb the liquid.
  8. Stir in the cooked Canadian bacon, sausage, onion mixture, and Gouda cheese.
  9. Pour into the prepared baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil.
  10. Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until almost completely set.
  11. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, melted butter (remaining 1 tablespoon), and remaining 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  12. Uncover the bake. Sprinkle the bread crumb mixture evenly over the top.
  13. Return to the oven, increase heat to 375°F (190°C), and bake for 20 minutes, or until completely set, puffed, and golden brown on top.
  14. Let sit for 15 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
