How to Make Baked Manicotti With Pepperoni Meat Sauce

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, pepperoni, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Meanwhile, lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  6. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of the baking dish.
  7. Lay out the lasagna noodles slightly overlapping if necessary to cover the bottom of the baking dish.
  8. Spread half of the remaining meat sauce over the noodles.
  9. Dollop spoonfuls of ricotta cheese mixture over the meat sauce.
  10. Top with the remaining meat sauce and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the sauce is heated through.
  12. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Chef's Tip for Extra Flavor

Chef's secret: layers of flavor make a dish truly memorable! Consider what a little extra something could bring – perhaps a touch of acidity like a good vinegar or citrus zest, a hint of smokiness from paprika, a bit of umami from mushrooms or soy sauce, or a sprinkle of toasted nuts for texture. Experiment and taste as you go!
